FUNGO drop a close one with River Bandits, 10-8
Despite outhitting the River Bandits 11-6, the FUNGO falter on the defensive side to drop a hard fought battle to the Tarboro River Bandits. Lenoir-Rhyne University's Caleb Fluno was huge all night for the FUNGO offense, leading the offense with a 3-6 night (HR,2B,5 RBI). Fluno drove a deep 3-run blast into the left field trees in the 1st inning to give the FUNGO their only lead of the night, and later came up with a clutch line-drive single that platted a run in the 8th inning as well.
Pitt Community College's Will Walker (2-5, 2B, BB, 2RBI, R) also had a stellar night for the FUNGO, coming up big with a clutch double in the 8th inning to get Fluno around the bases before he also scored later in the inning . Heritage High School alum Elijah Jordan (Gaston College) was another bright spot for the FUNGO, making his collegiate debut one to remember. A mid-game entry, Jordan went a perfect 2-2 with a walk, while also scoring a run in the FUNGO's late comeback bid.
Sande and Hanly were solid on the bump for the FUNGO. Sande (Gaston College) went 2 strong innings in relief, striking out 2 and allowing 1 unearned run. Hanley (Belmont-Abbey College) threw the 9th for the FUNGO, allowing no hits, no runs and striking out 2 in the process.
The FUNGO will be back in action today, Sunday, June 5th at East Clayton Community Park. First pitch is at 6:30pm, we hope to see you there!
