FUNGO Overcomes Bumpy Start, Wins Home Opener 6-4 Over Clovers

After a tough start defensively, the FUNGO overcame a 4-0 deficit to win the home opener over the Clayton Clovers. After a few errors and hits, Connor Garcia (Player of the Game - W, 3IP, 2H, R, 2K) took over for Kei Yamagishi in the third inning and twirled a gem in relief, allowing only 1 run over 3 innings - the last run the Clovers would be able to scratch.

While Garcia shut down the Clovers offensively, the FUNGO found their bats. Nick Badgett got the offense going single handedly in the third inning. Badgett led off with a single before stealing second, stealing third, and taking home after the throw to third got away from the third baseman. The FUNGO were able to get another run in the 4th after Hunter Zents and Ryan Warren hit back-to-back 2 out doubles. The offense really came alive for the FUNGO in the fifth inning, stringing together 4 runs on 4 hits and a walk between Jayson Arendt (2B), Tristan Marsh, Will Hood and Austin Williams.

After taking a 6-4 lead in the fifth, the FUNGO bullpen locked it down for the rest of the night. Matt Stanley took over for Garcia in the sixth, slinging two strong innings in relief (2H, 0R, K), before Aidan Cooper (1IP, 0H, 0R) setup Matt Poole (1IP, 1H, 0R, 2K) for the save.

The FUNGO will be back in action this Saturday at Flaherty Park versus the Tarboro River Bandits at 7pm. Tickets on sale now - we'll see ya there!
