FUNGO Rally Comes Up Short Against the Clovers

Shea Ward twirled a gem to start the game for the FUNGO tonight, scattering 2 hits and 6 strikeouts while allowing no runs over 4 strong innings. A big 5th inning from the Clayton Clovers proved to be the kicker for Wake Forest tonight though, as Clayton produced 6 runs on 4 walks and 5 of their 7 hits on the night.

The FUNGO just couldn't seem to get a hit when they needed it tonight, stranding 9 runners on the base paths. Wake Forest threatened in the 2nd, after Caleb Fluno led off with a single, followed by a Will Hood walk; but couldn't find a way to scratch one. FUNGO threatened again in the 7th behind a 1 out single from Jayson Arendt (his second hit of the night) and a walk from Hogan Stallings. Arendt stole third and Stallings later advanced to second on a wild pitch before Caleb Fluno drove a 2-0 pitch to deep left that was unfortunately tracked down by the left fielder for the third out.

Outside of the 5th, the FUNGO bullpen held Clayton's bats in check. Blake Hanley allowed no hits over 2 innings while striking out 4. Aidan Brown threw the last inning, allowing no runners and striking out 1 on 14 pitches.

The FUNGO will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Morehead City to take on the Marlins. The boys will be back in town this Friday, June 10th as they take on the Edenton Steamers. Hop over to the shop and get your tickets today!
